Alkagesta attended Miller’s DayWithMiller workshops and annual cocktail event in Paris on 8 October, according to an account published by the company. It said the gathering attracted more than 400 participants from the commodity trade finance and risk sector, including traders, banks, investment funds, development finance institutions, insurers and reinsurers. The account covered both the daytime programme and an evening reception.

Miller’s Credit, Surety and Political Risk team organised the workshops, which formed the main part of the day’s programme. According to Alkagesta, industry speakers addressed trade credit, political risk and the management of risks associated with commodities. Discussions covered credit and surety arrangements alongside marine cargo insurance and political risk cover, placing financing structures and insurance instruments within the same programme of sessions.

Alkagesta described the workshops as an opportunity to discuss the arrangements supporting responsible commodity trading and to examine how institutions approach risk management and compliance. Its account framed those discussions against what it characterised as an increasingly complex operating environment. The emphasis was on the frameworks and instruments used in trading, rather than on any particular commodity market or price development.

An evening cocktail reception followed the workshops, giving those attending a further opportunity to meet contacts across the industry’s finance and risk community. Alkagesta linked its participation to its stated priorities of strengthening its risk management framework, developing relationships with insurance and reinsurance partners, and demonstrating the compliance and governance standards it says support its international trading operations.

The company said its business covers petroleum products, biofuels, fertilisers and steel in approximately 48 countries. It described its network of trade finance providers, risk specialists and insurance partners as central to carrying out those activities responsibly, presenting the Paris gathering as relevant to maintaining those relationships.
