Alkagesta said fuel diversification and the commercial development of lower-carbon marine fuels were prominent topics during its participation in SIBCON 2026 in Singapore. In its account of the event, the company described a week of conference discussions and meetings with participants from the shipping and marine fuels sectors, including customers, suppliers, shipowners and bunker traders.

According to Alkagesta, sessions considered how biofuels, methanol and LNG could sit alongside conventional marine fuels as shipping moves towards using a broader range of energy sources. The discussions covered the relevance of those options to different vessel types and trade routes, addressing both the sector’s immediate outlook and its longer-term development. Alkagesta linked those themes to its own efforts to expand its sustainable fuels capabilities.

The company cited a five-year offtake agreement for UCO feedstock and a multi-year agreement for biofuel storage at Pantank in Antwerp as examples of that expansion. Its conference report presented those arrangements as consistent with the direction discussed at SIBCON, where alternative fuels were considered alongside questions about the availability and resilience of energy supplies.

Supply security was another recurring subject, Alkagesta said. Participants discussed diversification as a way for operators to manage risk by limiting reliance on an individual supply source amid continuing pressures in global energy markets. Separately, sessions examined what would be required to take decarbonisation projects beyond pilots and into commercial operation. The company’s account identified clear regulation, safety frameworks and access to finance as enabling conditions highlighted by industry leaders.

Alkagesta’s delegation included founder and chief executive Orkhan Rustamov, investment and asset management managing director Tural Huseynov, APAC commodity trading director Agshin Bakirzade, marine fuels distribution director Mithat Çiftçioğlu and senior marine fuel trader Afiq Salim. Beyond the formal programme, the company said meetings offered opportunities to maintain existing industry relationships and explore further collaboration across the Asia-Pacific region.
